A Venue That Meant Something Specific to Them

What made Corner of Wake Forest even more meaningful for Ava and Christopher is what sits directly across the street: Wake Forest Seminary, where Christopher is currently studying to become a pastor. They didn't choose this venue just because it photographs well — though it does — they chose it knowing their wedding day would take place steps away from the place where Christopher spends his days preparing for ministry. Their faith is a real, present part of who they are as a couple, and it was woven through the entire morning, not just the ceremony itself.

That's the kind of detail that doesn't show up on a venue website. It's something I only knew because I asked, and because it mattered enough to Ava and Christopher that they wanted their photographer to understand it going in. It changed how I thought about the seminary grounds that morning — not just as a backdrop with good light, but as a place that already meant something to the groom before a single photo was taken there.

Morning Light, Late April

An April morning wedding gives you a very different look than the late-afternoon weddings I shoot most often at this venue. The light is softer and cooler, still low enough to wrap around people without anyone squinting, and there's a stillness to a property before a wedding day gets into full swing that you don't get later on. It suited Ava and Christopher's day — quiet, a little reverent, unhurried right up until the moment she started down the aisle.
