Maternity Photography Guide

For Couples or Solo Mamas — Your Journey, Your Glow, Your Moment

Hey there, beautiful humans

This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to feel prepped and relaxed before your session. Let’s make some magic.

What to Expect?

No modeling experience? No problem. My job is to guide you every step of the way with natural prompts and gentle posing that brings out your real emotions — not anything stiff or awkward.

What should I/We wear for the photoshoot?

For Mom: If you are using MY dresses

  • Nude Bra/panty are best with my dresses. Strapless is also really good.
  • If you want a casual look also bring a pair of jeans or pajama pant with a sports bra/or bra

For Mom: If you are bringing your own outfits

  • Flowy dresses or form-fitting gowns that highlight your bump

  • Soft, neutral, or earthy tones photograph best

  • Avoid bold patterns, logos, or anything super bright

  • Bring 2 outfit options if you’d like variety

For Dad/Partner (if attending):

  • Neutral tones or soft colors that complement mom’s outfit

  • khakis or jeans with a button-up, or simple solid tee

  • Skip logos, graphic tees, and busy patterns

Solo Mama? Rock the same looks above. Whether you feel radiant or just proud to have made it out the door — I’ve got you. You don’t need a partner in the frame to make these photos powerful.

The Hands Matter!

Your hands will be featured up close.

A few quick prep tips:

  • Moisturize those hands (night before + morning of)

  • Nail polish — or go natural

  • Wear your wedding band or special jewelry if you’d like

  • Avoid chipped nail polish (hands get the VIP close-up treatment!)

  • Treat yourself to a pedicure
Before the Maternity Session

Here are a few ways to feel your best before the big day:

  • Stay hydrated and eat a light snack

  • Avoid tight clothes beforehand to prevent skin marks

  • Pack any sentimental items (ultrasound pic, baby shoes, heirlooms, etc)

  • Trust the process — I promise you don’t need to know what to do in front of the camera!

During the Session

If you're coming as a couple, expect lots of cuddling, laughing, and moments where I’ll have you connect through touch and movement — nothing cheesy, just the real love between you two. If you're solo, get ready for a calm, empowering experience that focuses on your strength, grace, and beauty.

Don’t worry about looking perfect — you’re already glowing, and I’ll take care of the rest.

When Should You Book Your Maternity Photos in Wake Forest?

The sweet spot for maternity photography is usually between 28–34 weeks. You’ll have that gorgeous bump, but you’ll still be comfortable enough to move around and enjoy your session. My calendar fills quickly, so the earlier you reach out, the better chance we can secure your preferred date.

Studio Maternity Photography in Youngsville NC

One of the best parts about choosing a studio maternity session? You never have to stress about the weather! My Youngsville studio (just minutes from Wake Forest and Raleigh) has professional lighting, a curated wardrobe of gowns, and cozy spots for you to relax. I’ll guide you through flattering poses, hype you up the entire time, and make sure you leave feeling like the goddess you are.

Outdoor Maternity Photos in Wake Forest and Louisburg NC

If you love natural backdrops, let’s take advantage of local gems like:

  • Joyner Park in Wake Forest – fields, stone walls, and tree-lined paths.

  • Dehart Botanical Garden in Louisburg NC – dreamy water views and golden-hour light.

Outdoor sessions are perfect for couples and families who want a relaxed, lifestyle feel with that extra bit of North Carolina magic.

What to Wear for Your Maternity Portraits

Wardrobe makes all the difference! I provide a selection of flattering maternity gowns, but you’re also welcome to bring your own. Flowy dresses, soft fabrics, and neutral or jewel tones always photograph beautifully. Some clients also love to bring personal touches like baby shoes, ultrasound photos, or a favorite accessory to make the session even more special.

Can My Partner or Children Join the Session?

Absolutely! Including your partner or older children makes the experience even more meaningful. I’ll capture the sweet, candid moments of your family connecting with the newest little member on the way. And yes—siblings are encouraged to sneak in hugs and kisses with your belly.
