Ocean Isle Beach Wedding Photographer
Ocean Isle Beach wedding photography is about more than a pretty backdrop — it's about documenting a coastal wedding day exactly as it happens, without stopping every few minutes to pose it. I'm Michelle Gunton, and after 19+ years and 400+ weddings photographed as a Raleigh wedding photographer , I'm bringing that same documentary, photojournalism-style approach — ranked #1 in the U.S. by AGWPJA — to couples marrying on Ocean Isle Beach and along the Brunswick County coast.
What Brings Me to the Coast
Moving a wedding photography business to the coast after two decades in the Triangle isn't about chasing a new backdrop — it's about the same thing that's driven every wedding I've shot since I started: getting out of the way of what's actually happening. The Triangle taught me to work in motion — following the room instead of directing it, catching the moment before anyone knows to pose for it. That doesn't change with sand instead of a ballroom floor. What changes is the light, the wind, the tide tables.
Serving Ocean Isle Beach & the Brunswick County Coast
Coastal Brunswick County weddings happen across several towns within a short drive of each other, and each has its own venues and feel:
- Ocean Isle Beach — the home base for this coverage area, and where beach-ceremony and island-venue weddings are most common.
- Sunset Beach — next door to the west, with its own beach rules, Bird Island, and the Kindred Spirit Mailbox. See my Sunset Beach wedding photographer page.
- Calabash — home to Slate & Cypress, the venue relationship described below.
- Shallotte — the inland hub for the area, with several event venues drawing couples from across Brunswick County.
- Southport — add once travel radius/venue relationships are confirmed for this town
Two Decades of Wedding Storytelling, Now Along the Coast
The approach doesn't change with the zip code: 19+ years photographing weddings, 400+ weddings documented start to finish, and a documentary, movement-first style built on staying out of the way rather than staging the day.
